The art of listening

I’m continually in awe of how the path of craniosacral therapy weaves so beautifully with how we walk our life path.  I was in a webinar this week on ‘birth from the babies perspective’ and had a moment of synchronicity that I’d like to share.

We have one thing in common so far; we were all born.    One of the things taught to craniosacral practioners is that we all experience birth trauma (to some extent) but we are not necessarily traumatised by it – if our story is deeply listened to, then we can let go of the experience.  We are taught (and I have witnessed) that deeper healing happens when the baby’s story is truly given space and listened to.

Now this is still relevant whatever age we are – as stuff happens (be it trauma, an argument, an accident, a death etc), it either stays held in the body space, taking up your energy, or if it is deeply listened to and heard, it is let go of and there is more potency available in your system.

The gift of really listening to yourself, to the stories that are held within your very DNA, so that they can be heard, witnessed with heart and released is a huge step on the pathway to freedom.

Most of us just hear.  To me, this is when you are quick to respond from the outer layers of yourself – like a deflection – whatever is there to be listened to does not reach your very core; it is not given a chance to land, expand and settle.  Hearing is the return rally of a badminton shuttle, listening is the pebble that drops to the bottom of the still lake.

It is possible to walk through life just hearing.  Yet if we switched to the deep listening path, there is so much more that could unfold out of the mystery for us....
